Funeral Costs

Please see the PDF below for our costs. These are jut the charges which we can control, other third party charges may vary.

FEES AND DISBURSEMENTS

We believe our service is of a high standard and we strive to continue to offer this to the community. We will however always be reasonable and competitive with our fees and act in the best interests of our clients. We provide verbal and written estimates as a matter of course.

All fees and disbursements in connection with a funeral will be dealt with by us on your behalf, to obviate any additional worry for you on the day of the funeral. If you wish to attend to any of the items personally, this is quite in order and presents no difficulty to us as long as we are notified beforehand.

The account of funeral expenses is normally forwarded in due course, after the funeral, unless for any reason you have specifically requested or circumstances require that it be rendered before this time. You may wish to pass the account to your solicitor or bank trustee department. It is helpful if we are notified of their name and address so our records can be noted accordingly.

Funeral costs are divided into two parts. Our fees and charges for the services we provide, with the provision of a coffin, vehicles, staff, premises and arranging and conducting of the funeral and disbursements which embrace all third party payments to a cemetery, crematorium, minister, church organist, florist and so on. All these expenses will be explained to you and itemised on our final invoice.

ADVICE ABOUT COSTS

FUNERAL COSTS

Average funeral costs these days for a cremation are often in excess of £3000 when all the fees and disbursements are taken into consideration. In the case of a burial, the cemetery fees can increase the disbursements significantly, especially when a new grave is required to be purchased. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and we would be only to pleased to provide an estimate of costs. We will always try to help anyone in financial difficulty or in hardship to keep the costs down to a bare minimum and would advise on the best way to do this, together with advice on where to obtain financial help though the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).

We emphasise that whilst we try to keep our costs down, without affecting our quality of service, we cannot control the fees levied by third parties (disbursements). These fees which predominantly relate to cremation and burial fees, ministers and church fees and medical fees paid to doctors have risen much more than the rate of inflation over recent years whilst our service fees have not.

It is possible to find companies advertising so called affordable cheap funerals. Many advertise on the internet. It is important to remember the old saying ‘You get what you pay for!’ If you choose to go down this route, remember that not all companies are members of national trade associations, namely the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), and the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF). These organisations have codes of practice in place to ensure a high level of quality service, trust and integrity. We are members of both and were founder members of NAFD.

We are not a company which is committed to sales and profit. We will not try to sell anything to you which you do not need. Nowadays, people seek a great deal of choice, for example, when choosing a coffin. We, for this reason, are able to offer a significant wide choice to suit everyone’s taste and budget but we will never try to encourage anyone to buy an expensive option. We have a standard coffin available which is the least expensive one we provide. It is in perfectly good taste and keeping, and carries our reputation. Many of our clients choose this option and it serves it’s purpose with dignity. You would not be persuaded by us to have anything other than this, as this is your decision entirely.

It is also a good idea to seek references regarding a good Funeral Director. You may find this information from family, friends, neighbours or colleagues. If you need professional opinion from those who come in to contact with funeral companies on a regular basis you may find church officials may help or staff from cemeteries or crematoria for example.

Please remember you only get one chance to make the right choice to entrust a company to care for you at this time. This privilege must be given to someone you can trust with their quality of service and attention.

The day of the funeral is your loved one’s day to remember them and celebrate their life, and you need to make sure that the decisions you make are the right ones. What happens around your loved one’s death, and on the day of the funeral, are the memories that will stay with you forever, and that is why it is very important to make sure you are making the right decisions and choices.
